Today is a very sad day for the Armenians. It’s the 99th anniversary of the most horrifying thing they have ever experienced. 1,5 million innocent people were killed within a very short period of time. Very few people managed to survive. For me it doesn’t matter how many countries officially recognize the genocide, I just want you to know what difficulties the Armenians had to overcome. No matter what political reasons caused this, such crime can never be justified.

I auditioned for this job for forty-five years and I finally got it. I always felt very powerless when I would see the terrible pictures on TV. But I was offered a wonderful opportunity to do something [and it] is a marvelous therapy to the anguish I feel.
